I joined the Vermont State Police in 1987 and retired in 2014 with over 27 years of law enforcement experience. Progressing steadily throughout my career, I concluded my law enforcement career with the title of Captain, Commander of the Narcotics Investigation Unit where I led a team of individuals responsible for the Vermont Drug Task Force, Drug Diversion Unit and the Executive Protection Unit. Throughout my career, I gained extensive investigative experience and received advanced training across multiple disciplines, including:

• Leadership in Police Organizations
• Incident Command
• Executive Protection
In addition, as Director of the Internal Affairs unit for 4 years, I personally investigated more than 200 allegations of misconduct against sworn members of the Vermont State Police. During this time I worked closely with the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, States Attorneys and Vermont State Employees Association and provided regular briefings to the Director of the State Police, The Commissioner of Public Safety and State Police Advisory Commission.

In 2006 I was named Commander of the Special Investigations Unit, which included:
• Vermont’s Fusion (Intelligence) Center
• Governor’s Security Unit
• Vermont Drug Task Force
• Polygraph Unit
From 2007-2012 I served as Troop Commander, responsible for all uniformed and civilian personnel assigned three State Police Offices and one Public Safety Answering Point (Dispatch Center) in two of the four State Police Troop areas.
I am a graduate of the FBI Hazardous Devices School, and was a member of the Vermont State Police Bomb Squad for 12 years serving as Bomb Squad Commander from 2001 to 2007. I was elected by fellow Bomb Squad Commanders in the Northeast Region of the United States to serve two terms as a member of the National Bomb Squad Commanders Advisory Board (NBSCAB). During my years as a bomb technician, I received additional training in Robotics, Post Blast Investigations, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Advanced Explosive Destruction Techniques.
I am a graduate of the FBI National Academy (219th session) and hold a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. I am a published author and currently maintain a “Secret Level” Security Clearance.
